Overview

Point Break

Kathryn Bigelow's fourth action film follows FBI agent Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) as he goes undercover to infiltrate a cache of Southern California surfers suspected of robbing banks. Utah, a former football player, is assigned to Los Angeles. There, four bank robbers, who wear rubber masks and call themselves "Ex-Presidents," have executed a series of successful robberies which embarrassingly have the FBI stumped. Utah, and his partner Pappas (Gary Busey) suspect that the robbers are surfers and hatch a plan for catching them.

I've heard of this thanks to Hot Fuzz. Finally saw it and it does have its moments. Some of the acting though...

Point Break is one of those movies I actually first became aware of during my teenage years. I also recently watched this film curious to understand my late adoptive mother’s fascination with Patrick Swayze (who plays Bodhi in point Break)when she was alive (she admitted that Patrick Swayze was one of the men she found attractive). There are other major stars attach to Point Break as well such as Keanu Reeves (as FBI Agent Johnny Utah), Garey Busey (FBI Agent Angelo Pappas), Lori Petty (Tyler Endicott), Lee Tergesen (Rosie) and others. Johnny Utah is given information by Angelo Pappas about the unsolved bank robberies. There were 27 banks in 3 years and they would often be in and out in 90 seconds. There are four men involved and they go to the robberies dressed as these late presidents; Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Ronald Regan, and Jimmy Carter. To complicate matters, Johnny Utah is never quite the same emotionally once he hears about Tyler Endicott and runs into her in person. Pappas is naturally concerned about catching the robbers as quick as possible because they only hit during the summer. One way that Johnny Utah strives to go undercover is by learning what it takes to surf in order to simultaneously get closer to Tyler Endicott and gain the trust of Bodhi and his crew. Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers makes a few cameos in Point Break as well (in the role of Tone). Another cameo feature in Point Break is the late Christopher Lee Pettiet (I remembered him from Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter is Dead). Anyhow, Johnny Utah and Angelo Pappas have their work cut out for them in trying to get the bank robbers because the men have robbed so many banks to the point where they have learned how to stay one step ahead of the law authorities. It also doesn’t help that Tyler and Bodhi are strongly connected together and Utah is portrayed as being in emotional conflict due to being so much in love with Tyler while being aware that he must cooperate with Pappas.

The male genre of machismo has never been directed by a female. Perhaps that is why this film is at once unique and brilliant, with great photography of surfing. Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze's characters have a strange relationship. Initially they are best of friends, but down deep they both know they are antagonists and Fate has presented itself that way. In a way, Bodie (Swayze) respects Agent Utah (Reeves) more than he does his own allies. In a fantastically mystical approach, Bodie says to Reeves after their flight to find Reeves's squeeze, "Yo Johnny, See you in the next life." And in the concluding part of the film, where Bodie meets his destiny, Reeves tells Bodie, "Vaya con dios." Both of them know what each other knows.

I think that the real hero of this film is the great....the wonderful...the sexy Antwan the Swan from the Pretty fish pond aka Anthony Kiedis- lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers! What a guy! He may not be in it for long but boy are those few minutes enjoyable! Keanu is alright, Patrick...mmm..no, but Anthony, well. I say bring on more of his fantastic acting skills and bring off some more clothes! I admit that there are some great surfing scenes though! Wow...a surfers life looks fun! This film is good for adrenilin surfers and those who love the summer!

ok, maybe it's not an oscar winning film, but that doesn't mean it's bad, keanu is the best actor everrrrrrr and johnny depp as well but he's not in it, and when i saw anthony kiedis...i cracked up when he said something like: well, it's a waste of time (something like that) don't know why, maybe cuz i'm in love with that guy

"The movie is an endless series of cheesy cliches: characterisations and dialog." That is why the movie is so awesome!! Great to watch before you go on a surfing trip with the boys.

my gosh, i have not seen such good acting in... i've never seen such good acting! to tell the truth keanu rocked but surprizingly (maby not) patrik did look a little high.. all the time like far out dude, at times he realy scared me with the ''feel the ocean's energy'' ladida. But reeves realy showed charachter good skript great acting i still can't forget the part where he meets his partner.'' 22 years i worked here and i still don't understand what a blind man fetching brics at the bottom of the pool have to do with theis job'' ''22 years of hard work and they stuff me with some football punk'' than comes the traner and takes off his head band and informes him that mr. reeves has heard everything he said. than comes my favorite part of the darn film keanu's cute wave.''punk football punk'' he introduseshimself. this movie is so not to be missed aspesialy if you're not inconsiderate and you don't insult keany with your big man igo just beacause he looks and acts better than u boys no need to throw a tantrum about how you can't stand his acting, like SUCK IT UP.se it live it.. well maby not the live part lol but this movie is a must see!!

The only saving grace is the scenery. The movie is an endless series of cheesy cliches: characterisations and dialog. Reeves is always hard to watch. This is worse than usual. A good one to skip.

''Point Break'' is a great flick about these cops who are trying to catch these bank robber surfer dudes. There is plenty of surfing action and some cool fight scenes. It also includes a great scene of The Red Hot Chili Peppers' lead singer, Anthony Kiedis. It is a great flick and the part with anthony is pretty funny when he says, ''That would be a waste of time''. If you like action and you like surfing, then check out the major surfing action in this movie now.
