I remember watching this series on PBS and was glad I could purchase it and revisit Ross, Demelza, and the rest of the characters. Love Cornwall and the scenes are lovely, the dialict spoken by the common folk makes it more realistic. Good plot and great acting while Jill Townsend as the love of Ross' life is hard to believe as she doesn't show much passion, the rest of the cast is very good. Can't wait for Series 2 in October.

I watched this way back in the 70's when it was shown on Masterpiece Theatre. I was totally hooked. I had to buy the video versions of it at an extravagant price--$100! At that time, I NEVER bought videos. But this one I had to have! Quality wasn't great, but I loved having my Poldark stories to watch over and over. But now I will be getting the DVD version and I'm quite excited about it. I've read that the quality is much better than the video version was and my DVD will last me a nice long time. It begins with Captain Poldark returning to Cornwall from fighting in the American Revolution. Before he left to fight he had been engaged to Elizabeth, the love of his life. But when it appeared that he wouldn't be returning, his cousin, Francis, got engaged to Elizabeth. Hmmm. Poldark is a little upset. So begins this epic. He comes home to personal and professional disarray and starts all over again. Great scenery; engaging story lines; my favorite period piece. And it turns out that Demelza is better than saintly Elizabeth...
