My review is somewhat skewed because I was in Newfoundland for about 6 weeks total. The real Newfoundland is as beautiful as the scenery in the movie. Life was obviously very harsh as was the climate, but how can you not like a provence that has towns named "St Jones within" Little Hearts Ease". Even to this day (1982 for me but I doubt if things have changed much) the largest city outside of St Johns is or was Clarenville about 3000. The story is good and moves farely well but the real star of the movie is the island itself. Somehow this movie captured the unique speech patterns of present day Newfies. In Saint Johns you can hear a pure Irish brogue, but outside it is a mixture of mainland and Newfie. If any newfoundlanders read this "Buddy knows what I'm talkin about, Eh?. Loved the movie but I'm biased because of the scenery. If you visit the island, you will be known as a "CFA" (Come From Away).
