The stage productions of the four installments in Wagner's Ring Cycle that appear in this set were originally mounted and filmed at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus in June and July of 1991 and 1992. All feature musical accompaniment by the chorus and orchestra of the Bayreuther Festspiele, direction for the stage by Harry Kupfer, stage design by Hans Schavernoch and costume design by Reinhard Heinrich. First of bill is Das Rheingold, with John Tomlinson as Wotan, Bodo Brinkmann as Donner, Kurt Schreibmayer as Froh and Graham Clark as Loge. Next is a production of Die Walküre, with Poul Elming as Siegmund, Nadine Secunde as Sieglinde, Matthias Holle as Hunding and John Tomlinson as Wotan. Third up is a production of Siegfried that stars Siegfried Jerusalem in the title role, John Tomlinson as Der Wanderer and Günter von Kannen as Alberich. Finally, the production of Gotterdammerung that appears in this set stars Siegfried Jersusalem as Siegfried, Bodo Brinkmann as Gunther and Philip Kang as Hagen.
