"Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" For more than 30 years, this catchphrase has made its way into the homes of millions of viewers. The second season (1976-77) of the late-night comedy staple features the Not Ready for Prime Time Players' first cast change, as Bill Murray comes aboard to replace Chevy Chase, newly departed for Hollywood. Original-cast members returning for Season 2 include Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtain, and Laraine Newman, and many of the show's classic recurring bits flourished in this season. The Land Shark, Samurai Stockbroker, Baba Wawa, Mr. Bill, and the Coneheads all shine in hilarious sketches, and such early SNL favorites as Mr. Mike (head writer Michael O'Donahue), Andy Kauffman, and magician Ricky Jay make memorable appearances. Season 2 guest hosts include Steve Martin, Sissy Spacek, Eric Idle, Ralph Nader, Candice Bergen, Lily Tomlin, and Jodie Foster, among others. Musical highlights include performances from James Taylor, George Harrison, Brian Wilson, Frank Zappa, the Kinks, the Band, Santana, Tom Waits, and others.
