Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Sesame Street has cooked up this ghoulash of musical and comical nuggets to make learning about nutrition more appetizing. At 30 minutes, this is the video equivalent of fast food, but its songs about eating healthy offer considerable nourishment. Linking the songs are vignettes set in Planet Storybook, where familiar characters come to eat (there's Jack Horner sitting, you guessed it, in the corner) and Grover the waiter encourages a finicky eater to try new and healthier foods. On the menu are a Madonna parody, "Cereal Girl," and "Telly's Healthy Lunch," which takes its cue from the Brady Bunch theme. Live-action sequences show adorable children picking blueberries and pasta being made. By the time the check comes, young viewers will be hungry for seconds.

We borrowed this from the library and I liked it so much I had to buy a copy (for my son, of course). :-) The only gripe I have is that it is only 30 minutes. Grover is a waiter in a restaurant, serving the same customer from the tv skits I remember watching back in the 70s. The Planet Storybook theme is cute, the songs are catchy, and my 2 year old loves it. Bonus: no annoying Elmo. My son doesn't seem to mind, either, because it is very entertaining. Only one boring part, when they're picking the bluberries. The song is a bit slow and the berry picking scenes just aren't that riveting. But the rest more than makes up for it.
