I bought this mainly to see "The Taming of the Shrew." Wow...Shirley Henderson...not one for the faint-hearted. The plays were definitely a fresh take on the Bard's work with the characters placed in modern situations, yet keeping the heart and soul of each very well, indeed.

This Shakespeare Retold rocks. I love British adaptations anyway, they make such an excellent and quality job when they touch the classics and here, once again, they don`t make mistakes. What can I say, suerb casting, Shirley Henderson, James McAvoy, Rufus Sewel, Damian Lewis, all gems in the crown of British acting and they do an amazing job. The productions are sort of low key, at least to compared to Hollywodd production, but it doesn`t harm the performances and the end result. My favourite of the four was The Taming Of The Shrew, but that is my favourite story anyway, and I think this version works so well, I was amazed. Rufus Sewel and Shirley Henderson both render perfect performances, and show great chemistry, and they make their characters believable, human. They also managed to show why they are what they are, in small, subtle details, and how they start to respect and love each other. And by the way, this movie is also hilarious! But all four are great, I recommend them!

I thought this was great. My favorite by far was Macbeth, followed by Taming of the Shrew. If you like Shakespeare you should check out these retellings of his classics.
