One of the best PBS series ever made. Keith Mitchell is totally believeable as Henry VIII. The wives are distinct people, and totally realistic. There is humor, tragedy, and love in this series. A great experience.

If you are a history buff like me (avocational) you will enjoy this. What an interesting era. The costumes are authentic and Henry's aging shows the great talent of both costumers and make up artists. It is hard not to enjoy this portrayal of a very interesting and momentous time when the schism in the catholic church gave birth to the church of England and all so Henry VIII could have his way and marry Anne Boleyn. What price love.

While Showtime's "The Tudors" might be beautiful (and very erotic) to look at, and Trevor Morris's music exceptionally glorious, as far as being historically accurate (something which I would assume is at least marginally important to most viewers) it is an absolute abomination. In fact, I couldn't stomach more than the first season because of its wild massacring of fact...and generally for no reason whatsoever (not even dramatic license can explain totally bizarre things like exchanging Henry's sister Margaret for his sister Mary, and then having her marry the King of Portugal instead of France...and THEN having her MURDER him rather than him dying of old age??? As an actress and screenwriter, I do understand playing a bit loose with history....but this was more like a complete rewrite while knocking back a couple of dozen pints of ale! I also have significant issues with alot of the casting of "The Tudors", whereas the PBS version is spot on. So, go ahead and watch "The Tudors" for its pretty costumes and hot actors, but if you want to actually learn something authentic about Henry, his wives, and their turbulent times, then stick to this phenomenal representation. It is, as far as I can determine, absolutely true to the facts, with marvelous acting, costumes, and sets to boot. Have we come a long way in terms of entertainment and cinematography since it was made? Of course. But if you want excellence in authentic historical storytelling, then the PBS series has it ALL over Showtime!

If you loved Showtime's "The Tudors", you will be very disappointed. The Showtime Tudor's shines and the BBC production is dull...BBC has alot to learn from Showtime!
