Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Bill Pearis
It is mind-boggling how consistently hilarious South Park remains a decade into its profane little existence. Season 10, which aired in 2006, is one of the series' funniest, with at least half of the 14 episodes being bona fide classics -- the other seven are merely great. The very best is probably the Emmy-nominated "Make Love, Not Warcraft" in which the boys become obsessed with the mega-popular online game Worlds of Warcraft. Much of the episode was animated using the game's actual software, and like the finest of South Park, it taps into the pop cultural zeitgeist, skewering and embracing things at the same time. Nearly as brilliant is the two-part "Cartoon Wars," which intertwines the media's nervousness about Muslims with The Family Guy and The Simpsons. Elsewhere, Satan's extravagant Halloween party looks suspiciously like an episode of MTV's My Super Sweet 16 in "Hell on Earth"; Kyle's dad gets a hybrid car in "Smug Alert," but the town now suffers from an equally noxious emission; and the two-part "Go God Go" is surely the only look at the evolution vs. creationism debate to feature a Buck Rogers in the 25th Century parody and futuristic race of otters who ride ostriches. As for the episodes "Manbearpig," "Mystery of the Urinal Deuce," and "Miss Teacher Bangs a Boy," you're just going to have to pick up South Park: The Complete Tenth Season to learn more.
