Overview

Young and troubled teen Mary (Liane Balaban) is obsessed with horror movies -- aren't we all! -- and refuses to stop watching them even though she has hideously bloody nightmares and sleepwalks into traffic. Her school psychiatrist (Ron Silver) is powerless to keep her from seeing a new hit movie called "The Wisher," in which a pale-faced, razor-fingered, cloaked demon obeys wishes in the most terrible manner. What do you know, once Mary sees the movie, her wishes start coming true, which is bad news for her dad and friends. Mary suspects someone, perhaps that cute boy who has a crush on her (Drew Lachey, singer for boy band 98 Degrees), is committing these awful crimes -- or could it be a supernatural being after all? ~ Buzz McClain

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
Yet another variation on a very familiar theme -- high school students haunted by a ghastly specter that slices them up like so many spare ribs -- Spliced isn't really very bad for the genre and formula. Production values are good, the acting is okay, and the script develops a grounded mystery involving humans instead of explaining everything away with supernatural mumbo jumbo. Is it scary? It might be for those who have not seen Nightmare on Elm Street or Scream or even The Ring, but horror buffs who laugh at a line like "Some of us are going to the lake after school; want to come?" will find Spliced only mildly amusing.

Mary is a horror movie freak. The only thing is she has bloody nightmares and sleepwalks into the streets at night. Mary knows her parents said not to see any horror movies but she is dying to see the new horror flick called ''The Wisher''. Then turns out the movie ends up taking part of her life. She now can have her wishes come true but in a deadly way.Who could this monster be? Is it the cute boy she likes or is it a supernatural spirit after all? Watch and find out!

An interesting movie, that will keep you at the edge of your seat til the end, with Mary's obsession with fear, and her destructive wishes. It is oddly fascinating, but will have you wishing for more, once it ends. A must-see for horror movie fans, who will be left shocked with disbelief and screaming for more. Hopefully a sequel will come out soon, but until it does, this movie is a must.
