Scary but Smart Psychedelic Horror Movie. My girlfriend bought me a Blu-Ray of Stitch since she knows I love me some good horror/fantasy. It helps that she still has a crush on Ed Furlong (Terminator 2, American History X) so there was a double benefit. We watched it together and both loved it.  We were expecting a so-bad-its-good B-movie sort of thing. Or maybe a so-bad-its-really-bad movie that we could laugh at. What we got instead was a bona fide, scary and smart horror spectacular. Truly a pleasant surprise! Stitch follows the story of a young parents played by Ed Furlong and Shawna Waldron. Their daughter recently died. So their two friends, played by Shirly Brener and Laurence Mason (The Crow, Prison Break) take them out to the desert for a healing ritual of sorts.  The ritual goes awry and all hell breaks loose. A freaky lightning storm traps the four characters out in the desert at an abandoned house. Then they get stitched, slashed and pursued by some kind of demonic force as all their inner secrets and emotional trauma spill out. It's as if their inner ugliness gets manifested externally as body-horror. There are some surprisingly deep themes in the story, especially for a horror-thriller movie of this type. Plus this is, hands down, one of the most psychedelic, bizarre and surreal thrillers I have ever seen in my life. Kind of like a cross between Beetlejuice, The Exorcist and The Evil Dead with a touch of David Lynch. Weird. Creepy. Totally effective! Recommended.
