The hit family comedy Stuart Little comes to DVD in two different packages. This one contains a standard full-frame 1.33:1 transfer. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are also accessible. The only difference between this and the other disc on the market is that the other disc contains a widescreen image. Otherwise, the extra features are the same. This plentiful disc contains a commentary track from the director and animation supervisor, a second commentary track with the visual effects supervisor, a featurette on the effects, a smattering of games for kids, a blooper reel, an isolated musical score, and music videos. There is also an early version of the boat race sequence with commentary by the director, art galleries, and a theatrical trailer. While most DVDs aimed at the family market skew their supplemental material towards fun stuff for the kids and away from the filmmaking process, Columbia/Tri Star deserves credit for putting out a package that appeals to both children and adults. The only drawback is not having the choice between the widescreen and full-frame image on the same disc.
