I watched this movie with my family. Although we have little understanding about the Korean War, this movie touches our feeling to be part of the characters in the movie to feel the sorrow of the War. Highly recommend this movie!! If you are history person, then this will be your first choice!!!!

Tae Guk Gi a movie depicting the war between North and South Korea is a melancholy tale pertaining to the lives of two brothers who are accidentally drafted to fight in the South Korean Army thus separating them from their family and loved ones. In the face of war a brotherhood is always formed. This movie which combines both a sad heart wrenching account and action packed sequences is a must see!

Tae Guk Gi is a film that is like Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. It is a mix of action, suspense, and the horror of the reality of the Korean War. The movie portrys only the Korean contributions to the war. The story is about two brothers from a small, somewhat poor family. Jin-Tae is a shoe maker who is trying to make money for his little brother, Jin-Seok, to go to college. But the war breaks out and both are somehow drafted into the army. Jin-Tae tries evrything he can to be awarded the Medal of Honor so he can send his little brother home. But Jin-Tae gets addicted to the suicidal missions and the thrill of the battles. His little brother finds out what Jin-Tae is trying to do so Jin-Seok tries to stop Jin-Tae. But an accident happens and Jin-Tae believes that Jin-Seok is dead and joins the North Korean Army. He finds out Jin-Seok is alive after a fight with his own brother and he sacrifices his life to save Jin-Seok's life. It is a very sad ending

The story, the historical setting, cinematography, director and the cast of this movie are all in order. Even the story is quite good but the movie ends to becoming a ordinary fare. I realize and notice the efforts of the makers but the movie lacks a crucial component to make it good which is soul. It doesn't engage me or make me sympathetic to the characters and that makes it a ordinary movie or above average.
