Any time I see Raul Julia in a movie I am a little sad thinking that he is no longer with us, that we won't get to see him in anything else. This movie, in particular, awakens that twinge of melancholy. Because what we have here is a movie that is very good, immediately interesting and, while slow to build, intriguing. But when Julia's mad, incandescent character enters, the film lights up and you can't stop watching it. I won't bother with the plot, you can read that in the slugline. What matters here are the characters. They're believable, and deep. None of them are perfect but none of them are wholly bad either, and that makes for people I can get interested in, people whose problems and joys I actually give a damn about. John Cassavetes develops an on-screen bond with Raul Julia that is borderline epic, if understated. Look out for a very young Molly Ringwald, who apparently was a better actress before 16 Candles came along and ruined her.

A great flick and Cassavetes is mesmerizing - an actor's actor. Paul Mazursky directed this charmer SO well. For the person who liked the music a few entries earlier-- it's no wonder. The artists include Mike Mothersbaugh (who did music for ''The Royal Tenenbaums'' and ''Rushmore,'' as well as Dinah Washington and music from Kander and Ebb, and Rodgers and Hart. Great use of music. I miss Cassavetes and what he brought to cinema. See this film!

This is the rare kind of film that seems charmed in every way. Every member of the outstanding cast delivers a top notch performance, the script is intelligent and wonderfully whimsical at the same time, the soundtrack is great, and Mazursky's directing has never been finer. I must have seen this movie a dozen times, and I believe I'll go home and watch it again tonight!

Tempest is just wonderful. The preformances are great, especially John Cassavetes, and I recommend it to anyone. I only have one question: WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN RELEASED ON DVD???
