Overview

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

In this musical comedy-adventure starring self-proclaimed greatest band in the world Tenacious D, a pair of aspiring rock superstars attempt to convince the world of their true talents as they embark on a daring quest to acquire the supernaturally powered guitar pick that will finally allow them to fully realize their vast rock & roll potential. JB (Jack Black) is a naïve Midwesterner whose strict Christian parents view his burning passion for heavy metal as a mortal sin. After his dad tears down every poster in his bedroom except for a Ronnie James Dio poster on the back of the door, the former Black Sabbath frontman instructs the aspiring young rocker to seek out his fortune no matter what the cost. Subsequently setting his sights on Hollywood and hellbent to take the world of rock music by storm, JB sneaks out his bedroom window and makes his way to Venice Beach, where he soon meets guitar-strumming slacker KG (Kyle Gass). With a future of rock & roll superstardom now well within their reach, JB and KG harness the power of Satan to form hellfire hard rock duo Tenacious D and set out on a quest to achieve musical immortality by stealing the mythical guitar pick said to instill its owner with unprecedented musical prowess.

This is one of the sparse comedies that has a good and solid storyline and well thought out and developed characters. It is hysterical, but has some references that aren't completely appropriate for children, but you don't really have to worry about one entering the room. I also recommend getting the CD because the songs will be stuck in your head forever. The movie is about a band trying to make it big, and it stars Jack Black and Kyle Gass who are in a great band called Tenacious D -this is true both in and out of the movie- There are also a large number a cameo's including actors like Ben Stiller, and Tim Robbins, as well as Foo Fighter's drummer David Grohl as the devil.

Simple fart and private parts jokes abound in a rediculous musical made specifically for the enebriated.

Funny movie throughout, Jack Black carries his presence throughout the movie, pretty close to how he did in School of Rock. Actually, it is definitely a movie about the duo Tenacious D, so you'll get to see a lot of Kyle Gass in this as well. There are also great cameos by the likes of Amy Pohler, Tim Robbins and Ben Stiller (not to mention some band drummer who had his body painted all red). DVD extras include extended scenes, commentaries by the band and the producer Liam Lynch, and Online extras I haven't been able to try yet. The commentaries are particularly entertaining, but admittedly it is best enjoyed by fans of the band (lots of references to their HBO show and a few famous music videos).

Jack Black is a great actor and this movie was not bad.I was suprised that it was even good, but there is some scenes that weren't great. It is a movie about two guys who go find a ancient guitar pick that is suppose to bring them destiny and on the way they see strange things and go to weird places. As a movie it isn't bad,but isn't the best movie either.I think Jack Black is great in this movie, but he has done better things.

Everything you'd expect from The D is in this movie: Sasquatch, the devil, side splitting comedy, and, of course, the best music ever composed! Any fan of Tenacious D will have this movie in their house within 5 days of the release date, and all their friends and family, as well. it's that good!!! BUY THIS MOVIE!!!!!
