Overview

The Blue Lagoon

Randal Kleiser's beautifully photographed cult classic The Blue Lagoon gets top-shelf treatment on this DVD release. The disc offers both a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and a standard full-frame 1.33:1 image. The widescreen transfer captures more of the beautiful locations and is preferable. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while a Spanish track has been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, and Thai subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include two commentary tracks -- one by the director, writer, and Brooke Shields, the other by the director and Christopher Atkins. Other bonuses include a Brooke Shields photo album, a "making of" featurette, a theatrical trailer, production notes, and talent files. Fans of the film will get everything they could hope for on this release, while fans of gorgeous cinematography will also want to give this fine disc a look.

This is a movie that I have fallen in love with since it's original release in 1980. I have probably watched this film dozens of times. I now own the DVD and can enjoy it any time that I wish. The scenery and soundtrack really makes this the classic romantic film that it is. I highly recommend it. You'll fall in love with it to!

This is one of the best love stories. Brooke did a fantastic job. I love how the movie shows the two children grow and maturing together. This movie is sad, happy, and funny all wrapped up in one movie. This movie is so good I've watched it over and over again!

I rented the movie about twenty times, I bought the DVD, and made a webpage about the movie, too. And all the while having no idea exactly why I liked it. But I've figured it out. It's the glances, the posture, and the beauty of the actors, combined with the gorgeous, colorful scenery, the tender romantic story, and the tragedy of the ending (I wont spoil it for you). It might not be the best movie, but it touched a nerve in me, and it will always be in my heart.
