For frequent viewers of British television, you will enjoy seeing a lot of favorite actors in this production that focuses on the reunion of cousins and friends before, during and much after WWII. I enjoyed seeing the costumes and stage settings of WWII era Cornwall and London, yet didn't find the characters redeeming as they all seem to enjoy a life of debauchery that doesn't change much despite the "sobering" effects of the war. They all moan about what the war did to dispell the idolatry of their picnics on the Camomile Lawn, but the characters seem too stunned by the war to do much reflection. The back and forth scenes of present and period eras make it difficult to figure out whom you are watching and the drama becomes rather drawn out and boring. Their lives are just not compelling enough to watch several hours of it. Some disturbing sexual scenes make this unsuitable for children most likely drawn to this because one of its stars Jennifer Ehle who was in Pride and Prejudice. Jennifer Ehle, in fact, is quite a revelation in this role as her character and portrayal is so different than Elizabeth Bennett that you appreciate her ability to represent virtuous and disreputable characters with equal agility.
