An annual birthday celebration gives way to tragedy when one of the guests dies unexpectedly, and the survivors are forced to reexamine their own shallow lives in this independent black comedy. Every year, Ken and his wife, Nora, throw a birthday celebration in their oceanfront vacation home. This year, things are going to be different. Shortly after arriving, the guest of honor complains of a mild illness, and retreats to the bedroom for some rest. Meanwhile, worldly Veronica shows up for her first stateside celebration after spending nearly a decade in Europe and adulterous husband Marc appears poised to hit on every woman in sight. When one guests passes away before the festivities even get started, the remaining revelers indulge in food, drink, and sex while attempting to gain a handle on their own relationships and pondering the true meaning of happiness.
