Overview

The Final Destination

The Final Destination series gets a kick-start with this fourth outing, headed up by the production team behind the second film -- director David R. Ellis and writer Eric Bress. The New Line franchise will be presented for the first time in 3-D with this installment focusing on a teenager that dodges a trip to the grave at a racetrack, only to find that death has a way of equaling the playing field after the fact. Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo, and Hayley Webb star in the sequel.

The fourth installment of the franchise has hit us (in 3-D)... Fans of the original and it's two excellent sequels should be very entertained. Pic was helmed by Part 2's director, David Ellis. The man knows how to film epic mayhem. That, of course is the strongest aspect of the pic, it's ingenious "death" sequences. The plot and script are okay, though there are some subtle references to the other pics in the series for fans... Especially the visuals in the main titles, and numbers on things like buses, etc... Performances are relatively on target for this type of pic... Hold your attention, even like some of them (the girls rock)... As stated before, director Ellis knows how to stage the mayhem... the slower moments could have used a bit more energy (and better writing). Tech credits are excellent. Photography and editing are top notch. Score by the prolific Brian Tyler is good, but has one near fatal flaw at the main and end credits. The use of the late Shirley Walker's "Destination" (she scored all 3 previous pics) theme is used, but in a dreadful rock style. The orchestral score is quite good. All in all... a must for fans that actually is better upon the second viewing. :)
