The Glass Slipper is a charming retelling of the Cinderella story, eminently suitable for both kids and adults. Leslie Caron plays Ella, the plain-Jane stepsister of beautiful but mean-spirited Birdena (Amanda Blake) and Serafina (Lisa Daniels). While stepmother Widow Sonder (Elsa Lanchester) arranges wealthy marriages for her natural daughters, poor Ella hasn't got a chance.

This is my very favorite version of Cinderella. I saw it first on TV in the late 60s and looked and looked for it until the 1990s when I recorded it from a Disney Channel airing. Leslie Caron gives a strong personality to Ella, especially for the time this version was filmed. And I can never quite decide if Estelle Winwood's Mrs Touquet is crazy or magical. The narration and characterization are broadly comical, but watch for the ironic little zingers that light up the script. These images, though apparently not very popular, have stayed with me for lo these 45 years, and for that I give it 5 stars.

This is simple but charming entertainment. Leslie Carone lights up any screen and her dansing is always an added attraction. She is a natural in any picture she is in.Her work is her passion.
