Dreadful. Bloated with poor characterizations, overmuch action, dumbed-down dialogue, unnecessary new characters, and more wretchedness that would have Tolkien turning in his grave if such things happened. Stick to the animated Rankin-Bass version. Peter Jackson has all but apologized for the steaming great pile of rubbish that this movie and its two predecessors are, and that is admirable of him.

While it was nice to see Middle Earth again and to see familiar characters, etc, the movie was okay. Interesting in moments but okay.

A case where the book is better than the movie. Almost like Peter Jackson said "Let's just get this thing over so we can get on to another project."
