Garry Shandling talks..."No Flipping"; Special features not rated or closed captioned
A brilliant behind-the-scenes look at a fictional talk show in the Tonight Show vein. Portrayed by Garry Shandling, Larry Sanders is, by day, a petulant child, unable to cope with his narrow world. By night he's transformed, at home doing what he loves best.
The first season hadn't hit its full stride yet but the excellent supporting cast was in place: Hank the buffoon, Artie the rock, dependable Beverly. the lovely Darlene, and even Jeremy Piven as the head writer. The episodes were recorded on film and video. Disappointingly, the transfer quality is poor (notwithstanding the fact that 16mm film was used.) But once one gets beyond the quality, the episodes are wonderful. It's great to see guests poking fun at themselves, and showing us a "new" side to their personalities. Truly a landmark series with superb scripts.
