Overview

The Longest Yard

One of the toughest and best-remembered sports movies of the 1970s gets a humorous makeover in this comedy. Paul "Wrecking" Crewe (Adam Sandler) was once a famous professional football player, but after several years out of the limelight and an alcohol problem have taken their toll, Crewe is arrested for a serious traffic accident aggravated by the fact he was drunk. Crewe is sentenced to Allenville Penitentiary, where Warden Hazen (James Cromwell) is something of a football fan. Hazen had organized his guards into an impressive football team, and clears a healthy profit by taking bets on their games. Looking to make the competition more interesting, Hazen suggests that Crewe put together a team from the inmate population to play his guards. With the help of fellow prisoner Caretaker (Chris Rock), Crewe recruits the heaviest hitters from the cell block for the team, but the guys don't play like a unit until Crewe and Caretaker get some help from Nate Scarborough (Burt Reynolds), a former college and NFL coach doing hard time. Adapted from Robert Aldrich's 1974 box-office smash of the same name, The Longest Yard also features rap star Nelly and Nicholas Turturro; the film has previously been loosely remade in 2001 as Mean Machine, with the action moved to England and the game changed to soccer.

I haven't seen the original movie but Burt Reynolds was awesome in this version, as was everyone else. Loaded with hilarious jokes and pranks, and proof that lumbering, musclebound giants can be very, very funny, it also has plenty of realistic, hard-hitting football scenes. A must-have for all fans of sports and comic films.

It seems like Sandlers pushed out some real turds since Happy Gilmore but I really enjoyed this movie. It was almost over and they had to throw that stupid old catch phrase of "You Can Do It" and blew the ending for me. Other than that I would recommend watching this movie. Chris Rock definitely upped the comedy for this movie.

This certainly isn't one of Adam Sandler's funniest movies. Chris Rock I think steals the humor throughout the movie, but it keeps that's okay. A great movie to watch over and over.

I really, really love this movie. I really like Adam Sandler and Chris Rock and try to watch as many of the movies that they are in. While they had me laughing, the one character that had me in stitches was the guard Engelheart, played by Kevin Nash. Even tho he plays one of the mean guards very well, I thought he was absolutely hysterical after the inmates switched his "medication". It's just too fuuny watching this huge, almost 7 foot guy go from mean to... well, I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say Engelheart gets a wee bit feminine. If you want to see a really good movie, most definitely get this one!!

This is my favorite movie ever. It made me laugh hysterically. Then in some other places it made me almost cry. It's a very heart warming story that will knock your socks off...Literally.

This movie was HILARIOUS!!!!!! The Longest Yard may just be the best football movie since "Remember the Titians". Cris Rock is great as Caretaker.

"THE LONGEST YARD" WAS HILARIOUS. THE BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN. IF CHRIS ROCK WAS NOT IN THIS MOVIE, IT WOULD'VE SUCKED. BUT I WAS LAUGHING MY A** OF THE THEATER. I'VE SEEN THIS MOVIE 2 TIMES AND CAN'T UNTIL IT COMES OUT ON DVD!
