Brad Anderson directs the psychological thriller The Machinist, a production of Spain's Filmax company. Christian Bale plays Trevor Reznik, a factory lathe operator who has developed a serious case of insomnia. Lack of sleep has already started to wear down on his brain and his body. When he's involved in an accident at work, his co-workers turn against him. He starts to find strange notes in his apartment and see people that apparently aren't there. Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as call girl Stevie. The Machinist premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004.

Trent Reznik hasn't slept in a year. His body and mind are literally wasting away. When he becomes distracted on the job a fellow co-worker is disemembered. This description may not seem like much, but this brilliant, and haunting indie mystery/horror film is truly something to behold. Brad Anderson's (Session 9) The Machinst is a prime example of a great, non-Hollywood film. I was impressed with his previous work, Session 9, but not wowed because of the jilted structuring of the film. The Machinst's structure will have your head in knots, but pulls all the little pieces together at the end. I can't say much more about it without spoiling it. Just see it! You won't regret it.

First thing first: yes, Christian Bale lost sixty pounds. Yes, he looks like a deteriorating skin over skeleton. This is crucial to the films mood and story. As Trevor Reznik's life begins to unfold, we unfold with him, and we are confused by what the hell is going on. Reznik, like the viewer, is on the outside looking in. It flows naturally, and things happen that makes us wonder, "WTF?" By the end of it, it proves that even the smallest things can have a long lasting effect, mentally and physically. I highly recommend this movie, just as long as you realize that the lead, Reznik, is just as confused as you are.

When you break it down the Machinist is all about Guilt, and How "A little guilt can go a long ways". It was a great movie, and to see someone who gets so dedicated to their work, as to lose somewhere around 60-70 Lbs, when he already has a great physique. Christian say's "I like to make movies that I would want to see". I believe that Christian is proving him self to be a very diverse actor, I don't think I have seen him in the same kind of movie twice.

I love movies with Jennifer Jason Leigh she is so talented in her roles. I thought Christan Bale did a great job, I can't wait to see him in Batman Begins.

Never quite seen a movie like this before but I liked it. It wasn't boring at all and kept my interest until the very end.

All i can say is wow, this is some movie and is one that'll be remembered. Short summary" guy w/ insomnia questions his sanity while leaving a memory behind that he tries to forget.
