HBO presents a series from the fertile mind of Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and executive produced by Sorkin, Scott Rudin and Alan Poul. Smart, topical, humorous and highly entertaining, The Newsroom takes a behind-the-scenes look at a high-rated cable-news program at the fictional ACN Network, focusing on the on- and off-camera lives of its acerbic anchor (Jeff Daniels), new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), their newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel and others) and their news-division boss (Sam Waterston). Overcoming a tumultuous first day together – climaxing in a newsflash that a BP oil rig has just exploded in the Gulf of Mexico – the team sets out on a patriotic if quixotic mission to “do the news well” in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles, and their own personal entanglements.

I watched this series faithfully when it aired. One week I had to watch it On Demand and happily discovered that in addition to this witty, brilliant show, there was commentary by Aaron Sorkin at the end of the episode. From then on, I only watched it On Demand to get a glimpse into the mind of this amazing writer. I love his character's dialog. they say so much that you need to be really paying attention to what they are saying. All the acting was superb, but especially Sam Waterston's. He should have gotten an Emmy for it. If you did not see this outstanding show when it was on HBO, I would certainly suggest you view it ASAP. I hate reruns, but I watched some of these episodes twice !! That tells you how excellent it is.
Easily some of the best writing on TV today, do yourself a favor and quit watching whatever else it is and sooth your mind with some informative, hilarious, intelligent, and outright brilliant writing and film making.
I love a good anchor man melt down. That was the best part.
