Overview

This first of three film versions of Mary J. Holmes' bucolic novel and play Lena Rivers was produced by the Cosmo Feature Film Company. Repeating her stage assignment, Beulah Poynter essays the dual role of orphan Lena Rivers and Lena's own mother Helen Nicholls, who dies early in the film. Taken into the household of her stern grandmother (Lizzie Conway), Lena befriends granny's next-door neighbor, Harry Graham (Robert Tabor). Little does our heroine realize that Graham is her own father, who deserted her years earlier when he was unjustly accused of a crime. Lightening the film's dramatic load were the comedy-relief antics of Charles DeForest as the goofy Joel Scovendyke.
