A talented high school teacher who teaches the toughest students in a physically isolated section of the school is killed in the tough neighborhood in Brooklyn where the school is. His estranged brother, who had training in skills like the Green Beret's or Navy Seals' comes to the funeral and also stays to watch over his brother's daughter. He gets a substitute teaching job in order to find out who and why his brother was killed. I really liked this movie because it was emotionally satisfying to see how this teacher solves the mystery AND gets revenge. I found it entertaining and never dull. I don't think this a great movie but it was full of new ideas to me. For one, the janitor becomes his ally in using special military skills to help The Substitute with his knowledge of military ideas and of all the nooks and crannies of the school. Although some of the scenes and parts of the plot seem unrealistic, and some a bit trite, still, it works for me.
