For the most part, I quite enjoyed the movie. It is, however, not one I would recommend for young children. There are scenes that are, or could be, somewhat disturbing because of the abuse shown, or implied. In addition, there is some nudity and a somewhat strong homosexual theme. What I found more bothersome than either the nudity or homosexuality was the cruelty that was woven through the story, both mental and physical. I would have liked some warning to expect that cruelty.

Parts of the story were confusing, but even so, the actors - especially David Thewlis and Leonardo DiCaprio were exceptional. They both showed such a range of emotions that their characters were quite compelling and believable.

If you like period pieces, and don't mind nudity, homosexual themes, 'harsh' treatment of others, or if you can look past those aspects of a movie (if they bother you), then you might agree that this is an interesting movie.

After the acting of David Thewlis and Leonardo DiCaprio, I think my favorite parts of the movie are the sets. Some of them are fascinating, some are breath-taking, and some are almost depressing. To me, it is interesting the emotions that some of the sets alone can create.

I did get caught up in it and have watched it a few times. Each time I've watched it, I've noticed something I missed before. I expect the next time I watch it, I'll notice something else that I've missed.
