Overview

Visitor Q

An audacious and original take on the dysfunctional family of the new millennium, maverick director Takashi Miike's taboo-bursting effort arrives on stateside DVD courtesy of Media Blasters. Presented in it's original aspect ratio of 1.33:1 (shot on video), the transfer is clean and the audio, presented in Japanese Dolby Digital Stereo, is crisp and free of distortion or hiss. Despite the commendable presentation of the film, this release is sorely lacking in the extra features department.

Visitor Q is a cold hard look at whether the family dynamic can survive modern society and whether life will ever be the same now that we are in the reality tv panoptikon. Chaos triumphs. Every that can go wrong does go wrong. If you can get through Pink Flamingos without projectile vomiting, if you liked Ichi the Killer, if you read Bizarro fiction, then this might be a film you can appreciate for its sublime filth and sublime beauty. If not, you might want to go elsewhere. When some people are looking for extreme cinema, they think they're just going to see some serious gore. If you want that serious gore, Ichi the Killer is a better bet. If you're not just going in anticipating blood and guts but rather anticipating a cinematic experience like nothing you've seen before, then Visitor Q might be a deranged masterpiece you can appreciate.
