Overview

This animated Japanese film is a dark, adult-oriented thriller. A peace treaty between the Earth and the Black World, a parallel universe of spider-like aliens is coming to an end. Two cops, Taki, a human male, and Maki, a female alien, are assigned to protect a diplomat who will help secure another treaty. A radical group of aliens from the Black World are out to assassinate the diplomat and prevent the treaty; only the bond that forms between the two cops can save the Earth from destruction. Sex is strongly associated with violence in many graphic scenes; although this is intended to play a symbolic role, this theme is used excessively. The story is effective, but the film is definitely not for children or anyone easily offended.

Animerica - Rio Yanez
There's a lot of meat to Urban Vision's Wicked City disc, and deservedly so. If you can stomach it, Wicked City is a classic and an essential part of your overall anime education.

Very cool monsters and a good plot makes for a very fun movie. It's not great though, and it may not be suited for all anime fans. I'd say see it before you buy it, but do see it one way or another.

Wicked City is one of those classic early 90s, gory, violent, sexually explicit anime flicks that appeals to some and not to others.  I can appreciate the style, the story, the characters, but I have a tough time with the sexually explicit nature of the film.  And I'm no prude!  I guess for me, I will praise the other items, as they are truly gorgeous items within the film.  The twists and turns within the plot keep you guessing till the very end, and the characters are, for me, the best part of the movie.  You really feel for some of them, and can't wait to see how some of them will meet their grisly end.  If this type of anime is normally not your cup of tea, I highly recommend watching it somehow prior to your purchasing it, because if I had done that, I would honestly not have made the purchase.  That being said, I don't mind watching it once in a very rare while.

I consider this to be one of the fringe classics of anime, in a similar vein to Demon City Shinjuku. It's more horror/thriller than action/sci-fi. The animation and character design is striking and shocking in some cases. It is very violent and has laughs all the way through -Giuseppe Myart is one hilarious little pervert &amp quot diplomat.&amp quot Tarantino fans should get a kick out of it.

I honestly must say seeing alot of anime that people who only enjoy horror anime and claim to know anime are amoung the critcs who know only one side of anime. Wicked city is a good solid anime flick and i am yet to see a great horror anime flick !!Wicked city blends some much needed elements for those with a taste for sci/fi slash erotic !!!
