I am so tired of hearing what a horrible movie this is. While it is no Citizen Kane, it has something special. When a movie is truly bad it is generally forgotten and never is spoken of again. Xanadu premiered over thirty years ago and people are still talking about it. It even inspired a hit Broadway musical! "Even Grease 2 was 10 times better than this film!" Really? THAT made me chuckle.

I saw this movie when it first came out in 1980. I was a junior in high school. I loved it then and I love it now! Simple fantasy romance with lots of music and dancing! If you lived in the 80's then you had to love ELO. This movie is just a great way to kick back and remember the good old days!!

This film is the absolute best! It will teach you how to be a true muse, just like Olivia Newton John!

If you love Olivia Newton-John, this film is not to be missed. Musical numbers backed by Electric Light Orchestra and Gene Kelly skating in a roller disco, how you you go wrong. A joyful blend of romance, music and mythology for the entire family!

This film is so cheesy! So, so, so cheesy! I mean, anything that combines Greek muses, an artist who paints LP covers, a cartoon sequence, and a disco roller skating rink can't be anything but cheesy. But I can't help loving it anyway. Part of that love arises from the fact that the wonderful Gene Kelly is in this film. He adds a little charm to anything he's in, and despite being 68 years old in Xanadu, he's still a lot of fun to watch. In addition, Electric Light Orchestra wrote and performed the music---with help from Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly, of course---and it's their music that really makes this film work. So if you're in the mood to watch something lighthearted and campy, Xanadu's pretty hard to beat.

I love olivia newton john. I love Grease. I love her music. I like gene kelly. I had never seen this movie before. I watched about 1 month ago. I heard horrible things about XANADU. I am very independent thinking. I wanted to give this movie a chance. I sat down and watched Xanadu in complete and utter horror. 1 of the worst movies I have ever seen. 1 of the worst movies ever made in history. Xanadu was beyond horrible. Olivia Newton John rollerskating around in an ungodly outfit was way too much for me. Gene Kelly is a legend. I am sure Mr Kelly never recovered from making Xanadu, because i have never recovered from watching this movie. I find myself thinking of this movie in the car or in the shower and I cannot help but shake my head and chuckle over how ridiculous this movie truly is.

I absolutely loved this movie. If you love musicals like I like musicals then this is the one for you.It has something for the old and young at heart. It has Gene Kelly for the older crowd while you have Olivia Newton John for the younger ones, which both are known for their musical talents. Its setting in the beautiful summer time in California with bell bottoms and girls in short shorts. The movie is about a young guy that he designs and paints pictures for record album and has the chance to open a skating rink/disco.Olivia Newton John is sent to help the painter reach his potential, which he eventually agrees that he is ready for a change and with her help, he is smitten and is intrigued on one moment she is there and then she is not, but goes to find her and they eventually find each other. This movie has something for everyone and with a great cast like this and the wonderful music , you can't beat a deal with the movie and dvd at one good price, Always a great price at Barnes and Noble.

Okay, the plot line is a little weak. Sure, the characters are thin. Granted, the dialogue isn't really there. But, who cares?! You get Olivia Newton-John singing and dancing. You get ELO on the soundtrack. You get the awesome Gene Kelly also singing and dancing (in his last musical perfomance, I believe). And you get pure fantasy and escapism from the insanity of these uncertain days, this being 2008. The custumes are fantastic. The dancing is out of this world. The production numbers are totally unforgettable. In a time when movie musicals were all but dead, we got one last look into what might have been. I'll take this over any reality show on the tube, today.

I thought it was romantic and a fun musical to watch! The soundtrack was awesome too!

This movie came out before I was even born. A year as a matter of fact. However, I remember watching it as a little girl and still to this day it has been one of my favorites. It tells a story of true love with a lot of passion. I believe the movie portrays exactly what anyone could possibly want in a relationship. It also tells the heart breaking truth to though. It tells how sometimes in life things stand in your way of true happiness.

I heard horrible things about this movie when it came out in 1980. I was a fan of Olivia Newton-John and decided I did not want to watch her in a bad movie. I bought it 1n 2007 and just watched it. I was shocked...it was very entertaining. I can't believe I waited 27 years! The only real flaw is that Olivia has such a small part with little dialog. Her character never really developed. Wonderful music and very charming indeed. Shame on movie reviewers. To me, it is better than Grease. I never cared for the 50's.

This film brought me to tears for two reasons. First, it's sad that the Great Gene Kelly had to be a part of such a bad film. Secondly, it was so bad I couldn't help but laugh myself to tears. I can't believe people can compare this film to Grease, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, An American in Paris or any other GOOD musical. Even Grease 2 was 10 times better than this film.

I bought this for my Mom and me to watch before we saw the play. It was quite boring compared to the Play. I would recommend the play over the movie.

I loved this movie when it first came out, I was just 10 years old then. I always wished there was a Xanadu!! Olivia Newton-John's best songs are in this movie. This is one my favorite movies of all time!! If you love Olivia, you'll like this movie!!

I saw this movie when it first came out at the theater in 1980. I was fourteen at the time and thought it was the greatest movie ever. Of course, now, I know it is a little cheesy but it is still very entertaining and a great way to spend an hour and a half. It's escapism and isn't that what movies are supposed to be? I would take it over some of the "great" movie I have seen lately any day.

This is one of my favorite weird campy movies! I first saw Xanadu in a movie theater when I was around 14 or 15 years old and I also recall watching it several times on HBO. I'm fans of both Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John and I loved the singing and dancing and really loved the songs that were performed by Olivia, and ELO.

Quite simply, Xanadu is a truly magnificent film. The elements are: classic 'boy meets girl, boy falls in love, boy loses girl' plot; all star cast; and fantastic soundtrack but that just doesn't do it justice. This film is greater than the sum of its parts. I've watched it too many times to remember and I still get a warm feeling inside when it's on. Do yourself a favour and buy it!

This movie is what it is! It's a lovely escape with a lot of romantic symbolism in it. Ya, it's a little cheesy, but it's been my favorite movie since it came out. Who hasn't dreamed of their own Xanadu? And it's really great to think there are Muses out there to inspire us. There's nothing better than '70's roller disco, then add the Big Band music from the '40's and '50's and combining them is sheer genius! I love this movie!

When this movie came out I was only eight...I first saw it at ten on HBO (oh the baby days of cable). Its the perfect mix of the older Gene Kelly muscial style (it even still has a Gene Kelly showcase piece ala Broadway Melody from Singing in the Rain) and the modern rock (disco?) musical. A solid dose of the beautiful Olivia Newton-John (mmmm...physical) and roller skating (not stinkin' rollerblades) make this movie a piece of true Hollywood MAGIC!

Great blast from the past movie. I loved it as a child and still love it today. Olivia and Gene Kelly are such a great team. The songs are some of my favorites from Olivia. Loved it almost as much as Grease.
