Audience: This is an excellent tool for nephrologists, whether clinical or research oriented. It is also of great interest to internists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, and all healthcare providers who have a particular interest in lipid-related disorders.
Features: The 16 sections begin with the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and adverse events associated with dyslipidemias. Subsequent sections cover in detail the importance of lipids in chronic kidney disease, nephritic syndrome, dialysis, and transplantation, followed by dyslipidemias in pediatric and geriatric populations. The final section covers topics such as apheresis in hyperlipidemias and reviews current guidelines by national lipid and kidney organizations.
Assessment: This book can educate many providers, from trainees to experienced practitioners, and it is a good reference for general healthcare providers. It is fully updated and summarizes the rapid advances made in the field of lipid disorders, with a focus on coexisting diseases within nephrology. The tables and graphs are appropriate and add meaningful information.
