Overview

Early Birds by Alex Wilson

A sleepy retirement destination with sleepy retirees…or was it? A string of cleverly orchestrated unsolved robberies were accumulating that were almost too well executed. They were precisely performed like a well rehearsed play. In fact, exactly like a well rehearsed play.

About the Author

At 72, Alex's wife said 'Why not try writing?' Within 4 months he had six novellas on Smashwords and now, a couple of years later, 18. Obviously there was stuff lurking in there waiting to be said. Alex's wife is also his muse and editor, and a good one. They live in St. Petersburg, FL where there is a surprising amount of writerly activity.

The writer seems to have writing skills, though. Needs to develop a better strategy for letting the story unfold in interesting and attention grabbing ways. Writer might want to check out books by Todd Borg and Brad Stratton for excellent examples.

I love the opening, but the story just stopped replaced by verbose description and unnatural dialogue that has bored me quickly. Too bad. It was a good premise.

If you are of a certain age, you'll enjoy the folks behind the crime and if you're a bit younger, you'll like the detectives. A great Robin Hood type of contemporary mystery. I read it in one sitting, would recommend it highly. Hope there are more additions to this series.

Who were the good guys and who were the bad guys?? Yhe story was so vague and confusing it was not clear why the police were suluting the thiefs at the end.
