Overview

About the Author

Douglas Cooper was born in New York City and attended Carson Long Institute in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. He has lived on Long Island and Cape Cod and in Charleston South Carolina and San Juan Puerto Rico. He served 28 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he commanded three cutters and sailed aboard the tall ship EAGLE, before working as a merchant mariner. Doug's careers have allowed him to see a fair bit of the world with a diverse group of friends, including Europe, the Caribbean, South America, the Arctic and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. His early interests were ocean-centric; deep-sea diving, surfing, saltwater fly fishing, kayaking and sailing. And always, motorcycles! More recently he has concentrated on working on old airplanes, and he now lists his occupation as full-time airport bum and part-time writer. Doug Cooper is an Ocean Master of steam, motor and auxiliary sailing vessels and holds a Commercial Pilot's License for airplanes, with instrument and multi-engine ratings. Doug is single and lives in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA.
