During the late '80s, Patricia learned the Vivation breathwork technique, which helps people create resolution of their most negative emotions using a simple yet exceptionally powerful process. Working extensively with Jim Leonard, the founder of Vivation®, she became one of the best-trained breathwork professionals in the United States. Patricia uses the Vivation technique in her workshops and practice to "supercharge" the healing process by uncovering and resolving suppressed emotions.
To round out her education in body, mind and spirit wellness, Patricia has extensively studied yoga, Pilates, massage, EFT, and holds several credentials in these disciplines. She serves on the board of the Associated Vivation Professionals in the United States and is a contributor to personal health publications and websites on the subjects of emotional overeating, physical vitality, overcoming negativity, energy work and yoga.

Nip your dieting failures in the bud I admit it...I could stand to lose some weight. But, with the cravings that occur on so many of today's diets, surviving in 'diet mode' past the first week can be almost impossible. The standard thought behind such failures is often that the dieter just doesn't have enough willpower, or that they don't really 'want' it bad enough... "The Chocolate Lover's Guide to Weight Loss" by Patricia Bacall contains a wealth of information on why so many people fail on their diets...and how, as impossible as it sounds, 'feeding your craving' can actually help you to keep to a healthier eating plan. This book contains so much helpful information and guidance, I feel anyone should read this if they are even remotely thinking of starting a diet! From the history of chocolate, the 'fat' revolution...to how the chemicals in foods affect our bodies and minds...this book has it all!

While I had to flip past the background and history of yoga, I found some real meaty material about a third of the way through the book. And that was the explanation about how hormones effect weight gain and loss. From there the book got really interesting. I loved Patricia's explanation of how the thyroid and adrenal glands and the different hormones effect the body. This goes outside of the mainstream notion of counting calories. While my problem has always been losing weight, I could see the common factor in stabilizing weight was the hormonal balancing of the yoga breath and postures. The postures were easy to understand and the photographs were simple to replicate. I liked Patricia's western explanation of yoga practice and intelligent explanation of the endocrine system and nutrition. I am adding this to my list of recommended books to my personal training clients.
