I have read and enjoyed all of Stephanie Laurens books and that's probably why I was so disappointed in this one - it is not at all up to her standards. While all her fans have been waiting for Christan's story, his lady is the least likeable in the series. Letitia Randall, nee Vaux, is referred to as a Vaux constantly through the book, as if the Vaux family are superior to everyone. Her screeching and temper tantrums are accepted because she is a Vaux and that's what the Vaux do, her word is golden because she is a Vaux, etc., etc. While the story was very good, Letitia ruins the book. If this is your first Laurens, don't judge by this one - her other books are wonderful.

I have read all of S. Laurens books and they tell great stories and the characters are engaging. Edge of Desire's heroine is a shrew full of anger. How could Christian Allardyce love such a creature? This is really a mystery story with incidental romance. The author needs to get back to her roots and tell the great love stories she is capable of writing. Also, it begs belief that the seven spies in the Bastion Club are never able to figure out who Dalziel really is. Come on, supposedly all the women of the ton know and not them. What kind of spies were they that they can't figure out who Dalziel is?

Just about the most disgusting people I've ever met - on the written page or off it! I wondered how in the world Christian would love someone like Letitia - then (later in the book), I noted they DESERVED each other - one just as nasty as the other one, IMHO! Unless you have a "thing" for terrible fictional characters, save your money! Nevertheless, the book is well-written - Ms. Laurens is an excellent writer - it's just the people between the bookends, I hate!

This book goes on and on and on and on about absolutely nothing. I have 80 pages left and can barely stand to read it. Terrible. Takes them too long for her to finally realize she loves him. Romance is supposed to be an easy, happy read, not a book that's so drull that your morning oatmeal is more interesting.

Little mushy @ times but not a bad story. Takes place in carraige days!

I needed this book to complete my collection of the Bastion Club novels. I love Stephanie Laurens!!! Recommend her to all fans of 1800's romantic novels. Must read in sequence but well worth it.

I usually am able to finish a book in 2 days, 3 at most, but this one is taking me a week. It is uninteresting and a bit tedious. I am skipping right through the love scenes and am tempted to just go to the last couple pages and be done with it. Stephanie Laurens is an ok author, not my favorite. I have read 4 other Bastion Club books and after this I am not going to get the last 2. Time for something else!
