About the Author

Award winning author, Kate Pearce was born into a large family of girls in England, and spent much of her childhood living very happily in a dream world. Along with being a voracious reader, Kate loves trail riding with her family, "western style" in the regional parks of Northern California. Kate is a member of RWA and is published by NAL Signet Eclipse, Kensington Aphrodisia, Ellora's Cave, Cleis Press and Virgin Black Lace/Cheek.

Enjoyable, steamy romance with a dangerous plot that makes it hard to put the book down. Well written and Part 1 in a series. 289 pages

Although the storyline is an old one, the author's writing style made it her own. She used English lifestyle with its restrictions and limitations as the background while she used modern emotions in an unlikely romance. The surprises and the suspense, with the sensual relationship of Elizabeth and Gervance made it a great way to relieve the tedium of enforced bed rest. Select this author.... chose this book especially. I think you'll find it as entertaining as I do.

So this was the first book I have installed on my Nook in 10 years. After 50 hour work weeks for the last 3 years I found myself on my first real vacation with the need for something light, free, yet stimulating. Yes it accomplished all three!!! I couldnt put it down. I completed it within one transatlantic flight and immediately bought the second book in the series. I would defaintly recommend this book!

Once again Kate Pearce delivers a book with both character development and story. Now she has a second book in the series, I am very excited to read it.

This was a surprisingly great read! I feel like it was a cross of Jane Eyre and Fifty Shades of Grey without the bondage. The language wasn't forced as I find other Regency romance novels to be, and it wasn't too anachronistic to be annoying. It had an interesting mystery with steady character development throughout. Some parts of the mystery were a little convoluted and confusing, but the reader must find out most of the facts along with the Duke of Diable Delamere.

Fun, witty, intelligent romp through the Regency era. Romance and mystery with lots of historical flavor. Once in awhile the logic goes askew. And sometimes the H/h do a 180 in their thinking. But otherwise a lovely and very different romance.

Just found this author and can't wait to read her other historical romance. Just plain good writing with sensuality not smut. I hope her other books follow the same use of words that make the love scenes tasteful.

An interesting story about a young lady who is used to being farmed out by her step father to pay his gambling debts, but not usually through sex. Although this time it’s to the Duke who is known as the world’s worst rake who thinks it’s for bedding. She manages to stop him but it is clearly not the thing to be living in a single man’s house. He offers her 5000K pounds to go away and not bother him again but she tells him no she wants him to teach her how to be a courtesan. If you don’t like simmering sex scenes then you may not want to read this but if you don’t mind a bit of spice this is an interesting story with French spies and young ladies smart enough to break code and stop assassins. Entertaining.
