About the Author

USA Today Bestselling Author, ES Carter, lives in Cardiff, South Wales—the home of castles, dragons, and folklore.
Her family joke that she was born with a book in her hand, and the urge to write stories soon followed.
At eleven, she won her school's literary prize. At ages fourteen to sixteen - her poetry phase after falling in love with Dylan Thomas and e.e. cummings - she had a few poems published, but life, love, and family overtook her dreams, and she was in her thirties when she began the scary journey of self-publishing.
Her debut and internationally best-selling series, 'Love by Numbers', are a set of interconnected stand-alone romances, all with varying themes of love. From second-chance to romantic comedy and M/M romance. These stories do not need to be read in order, in fact, she is often guilty of advising readers to start at the last book and work their way back through.
Contemporary romance is not the only genre she writes, her second series, 'The Red Order', is as dark and twisted as you can get, but there is beauty there too if you can open your eyes and look.
With many more stories bursting to be set free, she hopes you stay along for the ride.
She loves to connect with readers, so please feel free to friend/follow her on Facebook, IG, and Twitter or join her reader's group, E's Elite <3

This was the first book I have read by E.S. Carter and what a book to start my journey on. What an emotional roller-coaster of a ride she delivered; from the very start I knew this book was going to be something special. I was totally blown away by this story. It was as though E.S.Carter tore into my soul. I will admit to ugly crying on several occassions as I read Eight. It was a powerful and emotionally gripping read that I couldn't put down. My dad died when I was 9 and my mother when I was 13, so I could totally relate to this story and my heart broke for Josh and his family, particularly Ivy and Arthur. Perhaps that is why this story drew me in like no other has this year. This is a story of devastating loss, the struggle to come back to the land of the living and to slowly re-enter life. It is a painful journey that was beautifully written, heartfelt and emotional. However, Eight is also about learning to cope with the hand that life has dealt you and knowing that it is okay to take it one step at a time. In the end this story is not only about loss and the journey that it entails but slowly moving on with your life, irrevocably changed and being able to finally find a new future. Please don't feel that this is a totally sad and depressing story, it is so much more and certainly there are moments of humour and happiness. Josh is on a journey to re-discover life and to make the best of it with his children when Halle enters their lives. Eight is a story of hope. My emotions were all over the place and in writing this review, I find myself pulled right back in, such was the writing of Ms.Carter. It was gripping, intense and emotionally draining but also very uplifting. The power of hope and love is an amazing thing.

Eight captivated me, it drew me in, it broke my heart and then it put me back together again. I finished it a few days ago but it's taken me a while to put pen to paper and I really hope I have the words to do this beautifully written story justice. Make sure you have a box of tissues handy or even a reading buddy like I had because you will ugly cry, this is a book that doesn't just talk about grief it throws you right into the middle of a man trying to get his life together after his wife dies having his son, how do you become the father to a baby that every time you look at him you see the woman you thought would be around forever and how do you look into your daughters eyes and give her the answers she so rightly deserves when all you want to do is curl up in the corner...... I fell in love with Josh when he was at his lowest and as he got his life together that love grew and what can I say about the adorable Princess Ivy apart from she is an little girl who will steal your heart with her matter of fact comments that only a four year old can say and make your face light up with a smile even when you think the sun will never shine again. Is this a sad book ? Yes but it's a love story that isn't just about two adults falling in love, it's about learning to live again, learning to be a father and becoming a family again. Throughout this book you see the words "Laura Smiles" but it's only at the end will you really understand what those two beautiful words mean. I hope you pick up a copy of Eight because it's a must read. Eli Carter has given us a book that won't be forgotten it will be read and reread.

Oh my.......I've loved every one of the books in the Love by Numbers series, each one has made its mark on my heart. If the cover on book 6 doesn't hit a nerve then this isn't the book for you, because basically, if your heart doesn't go pitter patter right then and there you shouldn't even press that button, you won't appreciate it and quite honesty I don't think you deserve it. The story follows Josh who is struggling with the loss of his wife, and the fact that he can't let her go emotionally is just heartbreaking. When he ups and decides to start afresh in his brother's villa in Ibiza he's not expecting the reaction his heart and body have to Halle Richards, a woman who has her own personal issues to overcome. Lovely writing, and a beautiful story with some heart wrenching scenes from ES Carter in this wonderful story of love, loss and new beginnings. A full five star read for me.

The Love by Numbers series is one emotional ride. The books are always about love, family and that witty humor that only the British have. Eight is a story of grieve, a husband has lost his wife in labor of their second child and how he copes with not only the sorrow of losing the love of his life but how to keep going for his kids. The family helps, the kids helps but ultimately he is the force that will keep his family together, but does not have the strength to going on. This book is beautiful written and the fact that Josh meets a woman as broken as he is just confirms that life is messy, but we can find peace sometimes. There is hope, there is love... I don't have to say that #ilovebroccoli and only the ones who truly love this couple will only have green things in their future. The green represents humor, hope and laughter and should be celebrated in this book. This is a standalone but if I were you I would read them all! They are that good!

Eight By E.S. Carter You know those books that hold your heart well this one holds my soul. I felt EVERY word of this story in my bones. It's a story of new beginnings and healing. However healing is never easy. Sometimes it really isn't about the ending but it's about the journey you take to get there that matters more. "Is this what's between us? A connection that has no name only melody." "She opens. I take. She yields. I worship." "His lips spoke without words. His caress contained a promise of more, but it's all a lie." Both Josh and Halle are broken beyond what any single person should ever be. They are just trying to move forward with their lives lugging their broken pieces along with them as they put one foot in front of the other. But life may have a bigger plan for them. What they have is beauty beyond what either of them could imagine ever facing again. It just might be to much for either or both of them to keep. If you only decide to pick up one book this year I recommend it be this one. E.S. Carter brings it with a bit of everything and lots of beauty to make a perfect book for you to shout from the rooftops YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK.

3.75 stars "You have my words. You have my heart. Take my eyes for they will never want to land on another person but you." Eight is the first book I read in the Love by Numbers series. It started very emotional, and my heart broke for Josh and his children. I also wanted him to get out of his head and be there for his kids even though he was grieving. Fortunately, Josh had a very strong support system who helped him through his most difficult times. The author did a great job in portraying the love between Josh and his wife. I really felt the connection that was shown in just one chapter. "Love comes at the ultimate cost. It's not free. It's the most expensive of all emotions because you pay its price with your heart and there are no refunds or returns." To move on with his life and be a better father, he makes to decision to move out of the house that holds all the beautiful and painful memories. He moves to Ibiza and stays at his brother's villa there. The first day he meets Halle, and is super rude to her. I was intrigued by her and wanted to know more about her. It was clear that she didn't have any life, and these two broken characters were drawn to each other. They were very explosive together and Josh feels guilty for the way he feels. "You deserve more. More than a broken man who is in love with a ghost." It was very beautiful to see how Josh and Halle came together. However the pace of the story was very fast. In the last quarter of the book a lot happened, and I would've liked there to be more chapters to fully develop the relationship between these two, I wanted to see more of them as a couple. I think I would've enjoyed this book even more if I read the previous books in the series. Josh's kids were the best, I especially loved his five year old daughter Ivy. She was very caring and sassy. I just loved seeing him interacting with his children. I am looking forward to reading the previous books after meeting some of the characters in Eight.

This is a book that just took up residence in my heart and will stay with me forever. Eight is a beautiful, heartbreaking but ultimately life affirming story. In one day, Josh is faced with the death of his wife and the birth of his son. He struggles with how to go on surviving and caring for his 2 small children without the woman who was his childhood sweetheart and first love. And Oh My Goodness I wanted to be understanding of Josh's grief, but I alternated between wanting to hug him and slap him! "I feel like an interloper. Like someone has placed me inside the body of a man I once knew a long time ago, but they can’t see I’m not him. I’m a body snatcher and a fake. I’m not the Josh from before, and I won’t ever be him again because I was one-half of a whole. Now I’m one-half of nothing." Halle was given a chance to start her life over. She was working hard, keeping her head down and focusing on leaving all of her skeletons locked safely in a closet. The last thing she wanted was to get mixed up with someone who had complications of his own. "As his seed spills from my body, my shame falls from my eyes. Both soak my white cotton sheets and stain them with the evidence of my stupidity." Josh's family are so amazing! They stood by him and didn't let him push them away. Their Mom is just so wise and strong!!! Ivy is the star of this book! Even the hardest heart would melt for her! I really loved how the family found a way to celebrate life on Arthur's birthday. "My heart thuds painfully, my chest constricting with both love and sadness for my perfect little girl. She lost her mother forever, lost her father for a little while and is now afraid of losing anyone else, even if only for a few hours." I loved every word of this amazing story! Eight is the 6th book in the Love by the Numbers series but can be read as a standalone. “Life is complicated, ugly and often messy, but it’s also beautiful too.”
