Excellent book that I especially liked for two reasons - Elephants and WW II history combined.   These gentle giants (and sometimes not so gentle) and their interaction with humans as well as human compassion towards them made for a very endearing read.  There is a lot of joy and sadness in this book as well as thrilling and sometimes very dangerous events that keep one reading.   Please do read this if you like history (British, WWII and animals).

Elephant Company is a very well written book that proves greatly interesting. The story describes Billy Williams’ use of elephants in World War II. Author Vicki Croke has done her research and presents the story in an easy to understand way. Four stars.

Fantastic for those who like non-fiction, adventure, autobiography and history. A movie on this story is in order.

Elephant Company is well written, and an easy read. It brings to light the intelligence of these animals, their ability to think, and even reason to an extent. They form life-lasting relationships and respond well to kindness and love. Elephant Bill brings out the best in them with his love and common sense. He was an exceptional man who lived life to the fullest as long as he was surrounded by his beloved Elephants. I would certainly recommend this book to all with a love for animals.

I have finished two stories prior to this each providing a diferent element of WWl and WWll. I was delighted to find this story adding another amazing factor to a very trying time in our history. Go for it a great read.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. I've always read fiction and only recently ventured into nonfiction. This book has made me fall in love with elephants. It is a true story about the training and use of elephants in Burma immediately before WWII. I was fascinated by their intelligence and skills and the love of the elephant for its family. If only humans cared and disciplined as elephants do! I am thinking about reading it again. The story line of "Elephant Bill" and his skill with animals was also amazing. I would recommend this to anyone. I put this book up there with Unbroken. You will be glad you read it.

If you love elephants, this is a great read, especially because the "master" of the elephants really loved them and saw them as regal creatures and was so interested in keeping them safe and healthy in their everyday workings. The elephants are also funny and compassionate creatures and want to please everyone and seem to enjoy doing the work they are asked to do.

This book was amazing. Elephants are amazing. The fact that this book was based on actual happenings makes the book even better. I learned so much about the importance of these fine animals, and how much good they did during the WWII eastern frontier. MUST READ!

I feel like I could connect with the characters and the book kept my interest. If you are looking for something exciting this may not be your best choice, but nonetheless is a very interesting story about the great war on a front few of us know about.
