Elevator Rides are Awkward: A Story about Social Media and the Generational Curse
The 21st century is an era of innovative discoveries. This includes the evolution of phones, which led to the introduction of social media. Social media, the internet, and other mobile applications have changed the way that humans interact with one another. Some may argue that this new media is taking over our minds and decreasing the amount of effective communication among people, but others use social media to their full advantage. Millennials and baby boomers have seen large amounts of change throughout the years of development in technology. With all of the time that we spend on our phones, it can sometimes act as a 'safety net' that we refer to when we are bored or uncomfortable. An example of this may be when we encounter an elevator ride.

About the Author

Mikayla Newton is an award-winning journalist. She was born and raised in Riverdale, Georgia and later moved to Covington, Georgia where she graduated from Newton High School. She is an alumna of Georgia State University where she majored in journalism with a minor in Spanish. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she dedicates her time to serving her community and believes that children are the future. Newton soon plans to start her own nonprofit organization that is geared towards the advancement of education in predominantly black schools.
Her hobbies include motivational speaking, reading, and photography. At a recent book event, she had the pleasure of speaking to young children about the importance of self- confidence. Newton hopes to soon continue to positively affect people’s lives and be able to speak to children and wide-range audiences about success and other important values. Newton is a first time, self-published author.
