a great summer read Did I enjoy this book: I really did enjoy this book. It was  fun chick lit read that had me glued to my Kindle. This was a read that kept me walking around my neighborhood with my eyes glued to my Kindle. Elly is a sweet woman who is making a new life for herself, trying to forget a certain scene from her past. She is doing well until her biggest wedding of the year . . . of her career. I love that Elly is a normal woman. She is a size 16, pretty, sweaty, down-to-earth, and has the same struggles that many women have. She is a character that I liked immediately. I loved how she handled everything at the end and at the big wedding. I love Kim, Snarky Teenager, Anthony, Ardelle, and Keith. I love them all. Kim is a great friend. She is so kind and took Elly in and under her wing. Snarky Teenager is a great asset to Posies and to Elly. You want to smack her, but you want to hug her. I can’t wait to read Elly in Love. I’m starting it now. Would I recommend it: Yes. This is a great summer read. Get it. Read it.

Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings The sweetest book about a character that had me roped in from the very beginning.  Elly endures a major life event and reacts in the most extreme of ways and abandons her life to find a new one.  She makes a home in a small town in Missouri and is finally getting her feet under her when a turn of events takes her down to her knees.   There were quite a few moments where I wanted to knock some sense into her which I love because it means I cared for her so much!  Not only was Elly the main character, quite a fantastic one, but her band of characters to accompany her were beyond enjoyable.  Most employees of the floral shop, so many scenes took place in this magical little place that Colleen Oakes described to the reader with great adjectives.

It has been a while but the Chicklitplus blog tour is back on Writer’s Corner. Today we bring you Elly In Bloom by Colleen Oakes. Synopsis: Elly leaves Atlanta in a blur after she found her husband in bed with his mistress. Her goal is to drive and not to stop. Something draws Elly to stop at a coffee shop in Clayton Missouri where she meets Kim. Her new friend helps start over. Elly’s new business is a flower shop which is renowned for helping with weddings. What will her future hold? Will she finally get past her ex-husband? My Thoughts: Colleen Oakes is a new author for me. I did enjoy the story very much. There were spots where it lagged for me. I did enjoy learning about flowers and how they are arranged in for weddings. I also loved that the setting is in St. Louis Missouri. Clayton is a suburb in that city. It is known for being a more well to do area. The characters are unique in this novel. Elly is an emotional eater that solves all her problems by eating. Kim is a free spirit expecting a baby. Snarky teenager is an interesting character. I wish she had a name. The other characters are also very unique. I look forward to seeing Elly move forward. To see the next chapter in Elly’s life check out Elly In Bloom.

When Elly Jordan catches her husband cheating, she packs her life up and leaves their home in Georgia to start over in St. Louis. Flowers are her passion, and when she has settled into her new life, she opens up Posies, a boutique florist shop catering to weddings. Life is going well for Elly, and just when she thinks she has moved on from her past, an extravagant wedding contract for a "wedding of the year event" for a person from her past puts everything into perspective, making Elly's journey of self-discovery come full circle. Elly in Bloom is a heartwarming and enjoyable story about a woman whose journey of self-discovery comes full circle as she learns forgiveness, healing, and the ability to move on with her life. Author Colleen Oakes weaves an entertaining tale written in the third person narrative that follows the journey of thirty-two year old Elly Jordan as she moves on from a painful past into a second chance at a good life. You can't help but love Elly, she is a realistic woman with flaws and normal life issues that the reader can relate to. Elly restarts her life with a new found independence that has some hilarious laugh-out-loud episodes of clumsiness, mishaps and bantering with her quirky friends, employees and customers. The author provides the reader with some really wonderful descriptions about St. Louis, weddings and the florist shop industry. This story is a breath of fresh air, everyone can relate to Elly in some way, I think there is a little bit of her in each of us. Elly in Bloom is a delightful story that is thoroughly entertaining, and will give the reader a warm and fuzzy feeling and put a smile on their face.

After Elly Jordan ran away from her unfaithful husband, she started her new life as a wedding florist.  She has an interesting set of employees to assist her as she works to make her business a success. Elly also has a new relationship with her handsome new neighbor that leads her to believe that she has put the past behind her. The lucrative 'wedding of the year' will make her face her past which will allow her to move into her future. Between her quirky employees, crazed wedding consultant and Cadbury (her dog), it's hard not to root for Elly. This was an enjoyable read but I had a couple of minor issues. It seemed to move slow in places, especially during the extremely detailed descriptions of the floral arrangements. I also feel sorry for the Snarky Teenager. I was hoping by the end of the book, we would learn her name. I look forward to the second in the series.

What a delightful read! This beautiful story made me laugh out loud, crave deli roast beef, and finish off my Christmas box of Russell Stover chocolates while I was reading it! Ms. Oakes has crafted each character of Elly in Bloom as perfectly as a master florist designs each blossom in a bridal bouquet. Elly in Bloom is only the beginning for this new author! It definitely deserves its standing as the #1 Kindle bestseller in contemporary fiction! - Bette Maybee, author of Phoenix: The Rising

Review: "Elly In Bloom" by Colleen Oakes was truly a wonderful well written novel that had me crying and even laughing. This author really has a way that just takes the reader into the novel presenting it so very descriptively and with such emotions. This 'Big Beautiful' thirty-two young woman has a bad time with her heartbreak and insecurities but by end of this read will she comes out of this so much stronger individual? This lady (Elly) has just lost her mother through death and now she has found her husband in bed with a much younger and thin red head. Now, I know you want to know what's going to happen next. Well, I can only say you must pick up this excellent read "Elly In Bloom" to see just how life will unfold for Elly. This was very interesting read how this author puts this all together. I must say I only could hope for such friendships that Elly developed after she started her new life in St. Louis. These friends.... characters were simply off the chart good...especially Elly, Kim, and the 'Snarky Teenager' only to name a few. I laughed and even cried so hard at all the goings on in this novel. Each and everyone of these characters made the novel a wonderful read. "Elly In Bloom" was a very heartwarming novel where you found the heroine...pretty , somewhat heavy but seeing her able to pick herself up with the help of her friends was simply wonderful. I don't want to give away too much of the novel other than saying you must pick up this novel "Elly In Bloom" to see why, how Elly will make a new life after her life seems to be all in shambles. IF you are in for a good read chit lit, romance and humor you must pick up "Elly In Bloom" and yes I would definitely recommend this novel as a excellent read.

I had been looking forever for a book that I could just enjoy reading and get lost in the character's world for awhile. Elly was perfect for this! The author is so visually descriptive it was like I almost knew exactly what all the places looked like! I also just loved how things worked out for Elly in the exact same way I would have wanted them to work out! I enjoyed that Elly was just full of personal flaws, a real person (a reason why Bridget Jones is so endearing too)...not some perfect woman who for some reason hasn't found the right person yet. I am really looking forward to the next book! I'm excited for Elly's future! My only problem was some of the grammatical stuff, which I assumed happened from the transfer from book to kindle, but I am not going to snob it up and let it ruin the book for me!
