Elvis Gambles on a Good Time “Elvis and the Pink Cadillac Corpse” by Peggy Webb is required summer reading! It’s food, fun, and frivolity—along with a little murder—as Elvis, Callie, Lovie, Ruby Nell, and the linguistic challenged Fayrene head to Las Vegas. You may think that sounds like any other book in this series, but if you can read this one without laughing out loud and disturbing everyone around you, you’re a better person than me. Love is cooking her best to win the big trophy at the Vegas cook off. It begins with beef, moves to fried chicken, and ends, of course, with a glorious dessert. But before Lovie can be in the competition, with Callie as her sous chef, they have to deal with a body in Ruby Nell’s trunk, a missing chef, and the nastiness of the vindictive chef whose station is next door to Lovie’s. It’s enough to make your cake fall. I’m not kidding when I saw I laughed out loud while reading this, and I’m loving that Callie and Jack are back together and hope is alive for her unused, fertile eggs. Ruby Nell and Fayrene have their own adventure while Uncle Charlie and Jack end up in town to clear up a few things. “Elvis and the Pink Cadillac Corpse” is another hit for Peggy Webb. She doesn’t disappoint, which is why readers like me always look forward to the next book in this delightful series of small-town beauty shops, catering queens, convenience store/bait shop, and two men who are so stealthy nobody knows if it’s shadows or two Company men.

Elvis, Callie, Ruby Nell, & Fayrene go to Biloxi to support Lovie, who's participating in a cooking competition. As any fan of this series knows, nothing ever goes smoothly when the girls are involved. Reminiscent of Weekend at Bernie's Ruby Nell & Fayrene drag a corpse around with them creating laugh out loud situations. More laughs are provided by Fayrene's malapropisms. I giggled at Fayrene's comment regarding Callie's pornographic memory, although if she was thinking about hunky hubby Jack Jones, Fayrene might have been right! As chaos abounds our intrepid heros deal with dead bodies, mobsters, a kidnapping, & of course cooking! This was one crazy adventure ride & definitely left me wanting more!
