I'm missing something - all these reviews talk about getting advanced copies for honest reviews; I read this blindly as someone who simply purchased from Barnes and Noble. AND LOVED IT! Read other reviews for synopsis - the story was well done:)
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. While I enjoyed this book a lot, I didn't love it as much as the first book. I still can't understand why Syn's nickname is Syn as it doesn't quite fit (his last name is Sydney which would lend me to think of a different nickname). It made me feel that the name "Syn" was made to balance out "Furi" and that it was just a bit too much. This name issue, however, did not detract from the enjoyment of meeting these guys. Furi has an abusive ex, Syn has a hot cop temper when loved ones are challenged, and they are HOT together. I loved the interaction with God and Day throughout the book and I see how these 3 men could work together and get along. I truly felt the team family dynamics come through in the writing and it was very refreshing to see a police team so cohesive and there for each other, regardless of personal lifestyle. Peter was a true jerk that made me want to see him get walloped. His evil was well written. I still do wonder about the mystery and whodunit. I would have liked a little more information on the whole mystery storyline. I am DEFINITELY looking forward to reading more by this author!
This story was given to me free in exchange for an honest review. This is a hard story to review. Some aspects are really good and others not so much. All the characters in this story had great personalities and make for good reading. The story itself had a few problems. First you have Syn, new into an elite tactical police team. the first thing in the story is him being tested by the other members of the team to see if he is tough enough and has the integrity to be on the team. Then you have Furi, a young man who has run from an abusive marriage, trying to get his mechanics license working at his uncles bar and doing solo scenes for a porn studio. The two meet at the bar and after Fury discovers Syn is a Detectinve decides not to get involved. It takes a few meetings to say yes to a date. Meanwhile there is a murder case the team becomes involved in. Fury also becomes involved in the case and so it goes. This could have been much better story if the police aspect was written a bit more realistically. Characters were great but having Syn just starting with the team, he seemed to be taking off an awful lot, and no matter how "special" the team is, the need for some professionalism is a must. Especially if you're new! The scenes with Furi's soon to be ex had me wondering why they didn't just arrest him. And then there were the sex scenes. I found myself skimming over some because I wanted to get back to the story. I know this is MM romance, but with the great characters and a good story line, we readers can forgo some sex scenses if the story is built more. I'd like to see another but better built story with these characters.flag
Once again AE Via has created some smoking hot men. I loved Syn and Furi ( don’t you love her paly with names?) .Don’t forget Cash and God. If you haven’t met them yet you will love them and get a good taste of them in this book too. I really liked how Syn goes after Furi and doesn’t give up, though he was still a bit unsure of his sexuality. I also liked that Furi surprised me quite a bit in this story and I liked that they were so easy to figure out. Plus damn the dynamic between Syn and Furi. There is a bit of mystery, lots of action, a good story line, lots, and lots of smokin hot man-sex. I will say that for me I could have lived with a little less of them in the bed and a little more of their day to day life and police work. That’s just my personal taste. Having said that, it was fantastic and I loved the end and hope to see more of all these hot sexy men! So if you like, porn stars, sexy bartenders, mechanics (yes Furi is all that), cops, action, suspense, drama and super-hot mansex…This is definitely for you!
4-1/2 Stars New to the narcotics squad, Syn may not think so but he fits in perfectly. When he meets the bartender, Furi things really get kicked up a notch. A great follow-up to Nothing Special and the boys we fell in love with are back and offer great support and leadership when needed. Syn and Furi eventually learn that being part of or involved with the Atlanta Narcotics Task Force isn't just a job, it's a family. Overall series review: Great stories with very interesting characters, both good guys and bad. Sometimes the plot seemed a little on the rushed side but still flowed smoothly so it didn't effect my enjoyment of the tale. The mysteries/crime/conflict could have had a little more punch for my taste and for that reason I have to file this series under guilty pleasures, although I never once actually felt guilty for enjoying the pleasures of the Atlanta Narcotics Task Force men and off the record they are definitely men from head to toe.
