Loved the Laney/Evan story in the first 12 chapters. Hated the way the story ended.

Free books on Amazon are a hit or miss with me, but I like downloading them anyways to find new authors. Let me tell you, I am so glad that I downloaded this one when I had the chance! I was drawn in and hooked from the first page. Laney and Evan have been best friends for years, but senior year, everything changes and they become more. But it only lasts a short time because they each move away to college. They go through some ups and downs together, but they remain good friends. Then Dane comes into the picture and things change. There was definitely a love triangle going on in this story, but it didn't bother me at all. In fact, it probably made everything that much better. Both Dane and Evan want to be with Laney, and she has no idea what to do because she likes (loves) them both in different ways. Dane is devoted to Laney and will do anything he can to keep her his, including taking her on vacations, showing her with gifts and being an all around good guy. Meanwhile, Evan has always been Laney's best friend and has put her on a pedestal. It's really fun to see these relationships grow. I had my heart set on one of the relationships working over the other and thankfully, I got what I wanted! This was such a fun book. I couldn't put it down and I couldn't wait to read the next in the series (if you don't want spoilers, don't read the synopsis of the next book). I really liked all the characters and they each brought their own something to the story. I loved this book so much that right when I finished it, I went onto Amazon and bought the next! pagesofcomfort.blogspot.com

Laney first met Evan at 10 years old when he whooped up on a boy for pushing Laney. As a thank you Laney and her father took Evan fishing.  "...Daddy, 'member what you said about not starting a fight, but I could damn sure finish one?..." Laney makes Evan work to earn her friendship,  but once he does they are truly best friends.  During their senior year of high school Evan and Laney's relationship becomes more when Evan finally am it's how he feels about her. But their relationship is short lived when they both go off to different colleges.  "...You are where I am, all the time. Every song, every thought, every day...you're here..."  At college realizes for the first time she is truly on her own and she needs to branch out and live a little. Her first instant friend is her roommate Bennett.  With Bennett by her side she makes new friends with Zach, Tate, Sawyer, and Dane who become her Crew.  "...Ohhhhh, you're a softball player? ..." "...I am, wanna see my bat?..." Dane and Laney are instantly drawn to each other.  Dane is so much different than Evan is and he has a way of making Laney feel special and is there for her while Evan is not. "...I want to make you happy, Disney.  It's really all I think about these days, 'how do I make her happy?'..."  Can Evan keep Laney after the mistakes he's made? What is Dane keeping from Laney? Who will end up with Laney's whole heart?  "...I love you, Laney and I'll do whatever it takes to keep you..."  SE Hall has instantly become one of my favorite authors.  Her first book has me totally in love with Evan and Dane for different reasons.  This story is told in different POVs and it really shows you the love and emotions behind the different characters.  But you not only love Laney, Evan, and Dane,  you become fans of the whole Crew and want more from them as well. The end of Emerge will leave you wanting more so make sure you have Embrace at the ready. I love this book so much that I happily give it a Nerd Alert A++ or 5 happily in love stars.

My Review: 5 Star Review - Emerge (The Evolve Series # 1) I recommend this book. I enjoyed this book by S.E. Hall. This book includes passion, laughs, heartache, betrayal, and secrets. Laney and Evan have been friends since elementary school. They have just started to get closer but are about to leave for different colleges. Can the relationship survive or will people come between the two friends? They agreed to break up and just be friends while apart but can they really stop feeling they way they do? Laney is missing Evan and is trying to make friends and fit into college without him. Dane is turning into a great friend. He is sweet, handsome, and very protective. But she feels guilty about making friends with him. The more times she spends with him the less lonely she feels. The more time that goes the more Laney and Evan are losing touch. The texts and the calls stop coming and maybe it's time to move on... But sometimes even your closest friends what to tear them apart. How can Laney choose between Evan and Dane when they are both different people and make her feel different things?

Emerge by S.E. Hall is the first in her Evolve Series and it definitely deserves the 5 star rating! Laney and Evan have been best friends since they were 10, but each of them is accepted to different colleges, hours apart. Laney meets the intriguing and secretive Dane and immediately connects with him. There are twists and turns and the ending leaves you saying “OMG!”. A definite must read with alternating POVs. I can’t wait for the next book! ~Kendra with For the Love of Books

I loved this book!!!!! This is a story about a girl who loves a man, her best friend, her forever. Unfortunate circumstances separate them shortly after admitting how much they love each other. Laney goes to one college while her love Evan goes to another. I rooted for the two of them...until Dane. Laney must make one of the hardest decisions of her life. Who will she choose? You'll have to read to find out. You will no be disappointed...I promise you!! Emerge was beautifully written. I am so excited for Evan's story coming soon!

The writing grabs you by the hair and just keeps pulling you in. I can just see the characters and fall into this story, so much so that I read it all in one sitting, imagine how mad I was when my family expected me to actually cook dinner! I enjoyed the way some of the chapters offered another POV letting you peek into the thoughts and feelings of not just Laney but Evan and Dane as well. There is a twist or two that catch you unaware and make you go NO WAY....well yes WAY, and it makes the book all the more intriguing. I won't spoil the book with details, but suffice it to say that every reader of YA books and coming of age stories should put this book at the TOP of your TBR (to be read) lists!

I was given a copy of Emerge from the author for an honest review. Emerge by S.E. Hall is her first novel, which impresses the hell out of me. Her writing flows so well, I though she was well into her writing career and I had missed out on her other books. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. Emerge is a New Adult book that touches on what it's like to have new loves and life changing events that shape a young person's life. Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her since Evan, her best friend, has coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same. Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own. A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love...and life. Laney Walker is spunky, spirited, and honest. She speaks her mind freely and is loyal. She's completely oblivious to her charms, making her very attractive to many, including her best friend Evan. Laney and Evan have been inseparable since childhood. Laney soon realizes she has deeper feelings for Evan and they couldn't come at a worse time. They're both set to leave for separate colleges in a few months. Will these new experiences change Laney and Evan? Will their relationship withstand this test? I connected to Laney on so many levels. Laney and her father have been abandon by her mother. She grows up without the guidance and support only a mother can provide. I know what this is like. I grew up with just my dad and it was tough. You get all the hard knock lessons a father provides, but miss out on the things your mom is suppose to teach you. She's not there for the awkward puberty changes, your first real love, the prom and the like. S.E. Hall clearly understands this topic and it's spot on with Laney's struggles with an absentee mother. Laney is also very honest and forthcoming person. What you see is what you get. She's truly the "girl next door" that you love and adore. Evan Allen is the all-American boy you fell for in high school. He's a gorgeous brown haired, blue eyed boy football player you crushed on. Unfortunately for you, he only has eyes for Laney. Evan is completely devoted to her, but Laney is seems not to notice. He finally decides to change this and asks her on an official date. Once the friendship line is crossed, things seems to fast forward. Evan doesn't pressure Laney into anything she isn't ready for. And I love that about his character. He's respectful, a boy every father wishes for his daughter, including Laney's. To top things off, Evan must compete for Laney's affections with Dane Kendrick. It's a love triangle that will have you taking sides. Evan is your life-long friend. You know everything about him. But Dane is the dark-horse. Gorgeous and a mysterious, it's enough to let you forget that the love of your life is at another college, still pinning for you. Honestly, it's hard for me to choose a side. Both Evan and Dane have qualities I love and hate. How will Laney choose? The plot hooked me immediately. It's a story about your first time away from home. You're on your own, learning to navigate a quasi-adult life. You meet new people and situations, changing you as a person. The author navigates you through these events as if you're living it yourself. You feel the highs and lows. You watch these characters struggle to keep their beliefs in tact as they are challenged with problems they've never faced before. Loyalties shift as you watch Laney and Evan try to keep things together. The characters experience deep betrayals that may never be healed. I teared up a quite a few times watching Laney and Evan battle through their miscommunications and assumptions. The ending had me screaming NOOOOOOOOO! I usually avoid cliffhangers, but I'll make an exception for Emerge. It's a story that sticks with you and has you thinking over it days later. I give Emerge by S.E. Hall 5 out of 5 stars. I will definitely be reading the second book in the series, Embrace, a read when it's released in October.
