Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
In this funny tale, Emily Lee and her whole family are witches. They are nice people who look like everyone else, but they have special powers. Like most children, Emily likes to be play tricks on her brother, but she is too young to use magic. One day she took her mother's wand and decided to play a trick on her brother. She cast a spell that was supposed to change the TV into a toaster, but she used the wrong hand and ended up turning herself into a toaster. When Emily did not show up for dinner her mother figured out that Emily had been up to her shenanigans again and sent everyone to search the house for her. Of course they did not know what she had changed herself into so they were looking everywhere and talking to all the inanimate objects in the house. Pat, the baby, found Emily, now a toaster, and dragged her into the living room. At first no one knew it was Emily and were just going to put the toaster away. The toaster started to blow crumbs and they realized that Emily was the toaster. The mother's wand was found and Emily was changed back into a little girl. Children will love reading about Emily's antics and the trouble they get her into. They will laugh at the quirky drawings and the thought of being a toaster. This book is part of the "Read-it series." 2005, Picture Windows Books, Ages 5 to 8.
