Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The chimpanzee star of Emily Goes Wild by Betty Lou Phillips, illus. by Sharon Watts, takes the stage in a pair of original board books by the same team. In Emily Works Out, she "skips down the street/ Dances to the beat" in kinetic, silhouette paintings on a white background, and Emily's Manners, serves as an etiquette do and don't ("Plays with food/ Eats nicely"), with an illustration of the "Don't" on the left, and the correct protocol on the right. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Each spread offers a contrast—Emily misbehaving and Emily exhibiting proper behavior. The problem is that without someone explaining what is right and what is wrong, the message is never clear. Why is it bad manners to play with food? What are the consequences of interrupting? Why is it bad to sneeze without covering your nose and mouth? Not a book that will be useful in teaching kids good manners. 2005, Gibbs Smith, Ages 1 to 3.
