While many people suffered the shortage of food and obeyed the prohibitions imposed by the invaders, she cycled to buy and barter for food in country districts. Alan Paisey was born in Wiltshire. After military service and graduation, he entered the teaching profession, working in comprehensive schools in Southwark and Lambeth, central London. He later joined the staff of Bulmershe College, University of Reading, from which he retired as head of the Administrative Studies Division.
