Overview

Love is the most potent of remedies.

The sweeping historical romance that began with Deception of a Highlander, and continued with Possession of a Highlander, reaches its dazzling conclusion in this scorcher set on the Scottish plains.

Alec MacLean returns home after a decade to find his recently deceased father has let his inheritance fall to ruin. As the new laird, it’s Alec’s responsibility to rebuild the castle and restore the lands. He must also regain the people’s trust after having abandoned them so long ago, a feat not easily done when he fears he’s plagued with the same darkness as his father.

Celia escaped the North Berwick witch trials at a young age, surviving because of the sacrifice of her beloved caretaker. She’s made a life for herself in the wilds of Scotland where no laird rules, a life where she heals for coin, a life without love so she can never feel the hurt of loss again.

When the new laird comes back to claim his land, his determination to restore order threatens everything Celia has worked so hard to gain, especially with the undeniable attraction sizzling between them. Together, they will face all challenges, from the tangle of their own damaged pasts to the fire-fueled witch hunts sweeping the Isle of Mull. Together, they will find that the best way to overcome darkness and war is through the undeniable light of love.

I received this copy as part of the NERFA contest put on by First Coast Romantic Writers. This one was difficult to get into. It starts off with Alec asking Celia to be his mistress within 5 minutes of knowing her. Their second meeting has Celia, a virgin, walking up to him and they have sex even though they still do not know each other. It moved too fast in the beginning. It didn't make sense as to why they jumped right into it, especially with her leery of strangers due to her past. And he took her virginity and it wasn't until he was seated all the way in that he stopped and asked her again to be his mistress. That was a bit late for asking her. So the beginning made it difficult to get into at first. Things could have developed slower and it would have made for a stronger beginning. The plot does pick up the pace and the emotional tension between the two spikes once she believes he has died and gives into her desires for him. Once that happens things move along and the story became more engrossing. I liked their journey and the fact that both were willing to sacrifice their own happiness to keep the other safe. I liked the character development even if it started out rough. The characters do become stronger and the conflict was strong. Overall, the story as a whole was good.

This is book 3 in her Highlander series. After leaving home at an early age to get away from his father, Alec MacLean has finally returned only to find his home in ruins and bandits running rampant on his lands. He is not there long when he finds those bandits attacking a your woman. He defeats them, but is injured. He is soon patched up by the local healer. Not only does he leave with his wounds patched up but with a strong attraction for the woman he just left. Celia, the healer, has come to enjoy her life. Healing the local people and no laird to dictate to her. When she learns that the man she patched up is none other than the returning laird, she doesn't know how her life will change. She does know that she must fight the attraction she feels for the man, as nothing good can come from it. When Alec calls Celia to the castle to help heal is foster son, they end up spending a lot more time together. Can this unlikely duo go against the odds and make a life together? I really enjoyed the conclusion of this trilogy! Celia had been through so much in her young life and come out a survivor. Just the type of woman that a returning laird would need to establish himself back into his community. To Alec it didn't matter of what class Celia came from, he knew what he felt and he went for it. Of course there were many things that they had to go through to get that HEA, but it was all worth it in the end. I can't wait to see what Martin has in store for us next! Thanks go out to Diversion Books via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

5star Enchanting Endeavor into the Highlands of Scotland with a new laird and a hiding healer. There is much in this to draw you in and keep you entertained all the way to the end. There is a sizzling hot highlander, a beautiful healer, secrets, sabotage, outlaws, witch hunters, and much more. The is something fantastic around each page you turn. I am a avid lover of all thing highlander. I will devour a book about romantic historical highlanders. I had not had the pleasure of reading any of Madeline Martin's books before this one. I will make sure that this oversight does not happen again. I loved this book from the beginning all the way to the very end. I was about to dive right in and keep going until I was finished. I have to get the first two books in this series. And of course that will mean re-reading Enchantment of a Highlander. Enchanting historical romance! After being gone for decades, Alec returns home to find his father dead and his inheritance left in ruins. Now Alec must rebuild his castle and restore his lands and most importantly gain his peoples trust. Celia escaped the North Berwick witch trials and is living on Alec’s land healing people. When Alec and Celia meet the chemistry is undeniable but will Celia allow herself to love again? Lots of drama and suspense. The chemistry between Alec and Celia is excellent. The story held my interest throughout. An enjoyable historical romance.

I loved this story, even with the gritty, dark history surrounding the heroine. Celia had survived a very rough childhood and lived a solitary existence so that no one else would get hurt. Alec had seen his share of bad and wanted to correct all that his father had ruined. He was so taken with Celia from the get go, he was willing to make her life better, despite her resistance. By the end of this story, I had tears in my eyes because I became invested in their love. I love Madeline Martin's writing and look forward to more. I had a chance to read this book through Netgalley for an honest review.
