For anyone looking to read up on philosophy, the Encyclopedia of Philosophy definitely where you should start if you have access to a copy. It offers excellent, easy to understand explanations of philosophical ideas and the ideas of the great philosophers. In articles about a certain philosopher, it gives a little bit of background information about person's life and goes on to explain their ideas. It's just awesome.
