The book is a step by step, proven and easy to use Writing tool that aims to improve descriptive, writing skills. Writing to Describe - English Made Easy works by demonstrating an example of descriptive writing and breaks down the writing so we can see what’s going on. Pupils look at the vocabulary, sentences and paragraphs used when writing to describe a place. The book is designed to improve literacy at the level of a pupil working at age related expectations at aged 10 - 16, or an advanced ESL learner. Educationalists and effective language teachers have known for a long time that pupils improve their literacy skills when they complete vocabulary, grammar and paragraph exercises in real situations. Each unit combines proven and effective strategies used in real life literacy lessons. The writer of the book has seen dramatic improvements in the performance of inner city school children of all ages after completing the interventions. The following groups would find them particularly beneficial: • Literacy teachers • Special Needs Coordinators • English as an Additional Language Coordinators • ESL/EAL pupils • Parents who want to work with their children to improve English levels The Unit should take about five hours to complete and can be used in lots of different ways. The Unit could be delivered as part of an intervention class, as a one on one tutoring session, or as part of a wider teaching scheme.
